The quality of a blanket depends on firstly the choice of yarn, and the mill that weaves them. By designing all our own blankets we ensure the highest quality at every stage from design to weave. Natural fibres provide the most warmth which is why our blankets are made using all natural fibres including alpaca, lambswool, and cashmere. You can read the story of how we created our latest blanket here.

Socks
Because of the straight fibre of alpaca yarn, it doesn't trap bacteria in the same way that other fibres do so they don't need to be washed with every wear. Washing the socks less frequently is good environmentally and also extends the life of the socks. Find our beautiful alpaca sock ranges here.
Alpaca is a fantastic soft yarn which is more durable than cashmere, meaning alpaca socks last really well and they're easier to care for. Find our all our beautiful alpaca socks here.

Pepper Mills
The best way to clean the outside of your pepper mill is with a soft damp cloth. If you want to, it is possible to polish the brass mills to achieve a shiny golden finish however we love them for their beautiful and unique patina that they develop slowly over time.
To clean the inside of your pepper mill simply remove the screws in the base and the whole mechanism can be taken apart and gently brushed clean with a dry lint-free cloth or brush. You can find out more about our brass pepper mills and our nickel pepper mills on their individual listings.

Candles
Candles made from paraffin can be made using different grades of paraffin. We select only high grade paraffin for our colourful candles to encourage a clean and even burn.
Beeswax candles are best known for their distinctive golden colour and their delicate and beautiful scent. Beeswax is a natural material which requires minimal processing (reducing its impact on the environment) in order to be made into the candles we burn at home. Beeswax is particularly well suited to tapered candles and pillar candles, both of which we source and all of which are made here in the UK.
As the name suggests, beeswax is only made by bees so the supply of this precious material is limited. Beeswax is a natural material which needs to be carefully handled to create candles. You can find ourbeeswax candleshere.
The best scented candles are made using a high quality wax and a carefully designed fragrance. The Freight scented candles are made with a sustainable soy wax base, chosen for a clean and even burn, and this is combined with our own signature fragrances. The candle jar has been carefully designed and each one is made by our potter in Stoke on Trent.
Before using your beeswax pillar candles for the first time, there are a few things you should know in order to get the perfect burn:
First burn is crucial. Burn for 2-4 hours on the first use to establish a proper melt pool. Short burns can cause tunnelling.
Hug gently during early burns. Once the wax walls soften, gently press them inward to help the candle burn evenly. Do not over-hug, as pushing too much wax inward can flood the wick and weaken the flame.
Trim the wick before each burn. Keep the wick at ~1⁄4 inch (5-6 mm) for a clean, steady flame.
If tunnelling or relighting issues occur, light the candle, remove a small amount of excess wax from the centre and gently hug again until the sides level out.
Candlesticks
To clean the candlestick, place it in warm soapy water and soak. If it has candle wax on it then pour some boiling water over the body to remove the wax.
The brushed brass or pewter insert can be removed, allowing for easy cleaning. This part is best cleaned off with warm soapy water.
Fill a tub with hot water and add some mild dishwashing soap. Wipe down the pewter surface with a soft sponge. Rinse off and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use anything scouring on the surface or it will scratch.
The cup that holds the candle, in either Pewter or Brass, can be removed for cleaning separately with warm soapy water.
Knives
These traditional Spanish chef's knives are made with a carbon steel blade for sharpness and longevity.
Wash by hand, never in the dishwasher.
It is advised with carbon steel that you dry it after washing to prevent a patina forming on the steel. However, with wear this will gradually appear and only adds to the character of the knife. The main benefit to carbon steel is that it is easier to hone the blade and keep an extremely sharp edge.
To maintain the sheen of the boxwood or ebony handle, you can protect the wood using a food-grade oil when it starts to dull.
The manufacturers of these knives use the same artisanal techniques established by the company's founders in 1917 maintaining the original quality. All knives are sharpened by hand at the end of the process.
Duster Coats
When first trying it on, it will gently soften as it warms to you.
Get your hands in the pockets to encourage an even better fit.
We find the length is one of its best features – designed and worn by a petite team, we can say with confidence that this style suits all statures.
The duster coats are machine washable, on a delicate setting. Don't worry about crumpling it into a bag – that's the beauty of this design! It's very portable and durable. If it gets muddy on an autumn walk, just wait for it to dry and the mud will brush off easily.
